Privacy Policy
Last updated June 19, 2026
Voqu connects language learners with conversation partners around the world for real chat and voice/video practice. This policy explains what personal data we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices and rights you have. It applies to the Voqu mobile and web apps and this website.
If you have questions, contact us at [email protected].
1. Information we collect
2. How we use your information
- Create and manage your account and profile.
- Match you with conversation partners based on language, level, interests, and availability.
- Deliver chat, voice/video calls, transcription, translation, and grammar features.
- Send notifications about messages, matches, and calls.
- Keep Voqu safe — verifying accounts, moderating content, and reviewing reports.
- Operate, secure, and improve the service, and measure how features are used.
- Send service emails, and marketing emails only where you have opted in.
3. Sharing with conversation partners
Voqu is a social product, so parts of your profile are visible to other members — your name, avatar and photos, bio, languages and levels, interests, availability, and (if enabled) your approximate city and country. Your messages and calls are shared with the partners you talk to. Your email address, password, precise location, and IP address are never shown to other users.
4. Service providers we work with
We share data with trusted processors only as needed to run Voqu. We do not sell your personal data.
5. Device permissions
The app asks for the following permissions. You can grant or revoke each one in your device settings; some features won't work without them.
6. Advertising
Members on the free plan see ads from our advertising partners. In regions that require it, we show a consent prompt, and on iOS we ask for permission before any tracking that uses your device's advertising identifier. Voqu Boost subscribers don't see ads, and our ads are not directed at children.
7. Data retention
We keep your personal data for as long as your account is active. You can delete your account at any time from the app. When you do, we remove your profile, photos, and associated personal data, including your private location records. Because a conversation belongs to both people in it, the messages you exchanged are kept for the other participant but are anonymized — no longer linked to your name or profile. We may retain limited information where required for legal, security, or fraud-prevention purposes.
8. Your rights and choices
- Access, update, or correct your profile information in the app.
- Delete your account at any time from the app. This removes your personal data as described above; your past messages are kept but anonymized for the people you spoke with.
- Control location sharing and online-status visibility in your settings.
- Manage notification and marketing-email preferences, and opt out of marketing at any time.
- Depending on where you live (for example, under GDPR or CCPA), request a copy of your data, restrict or object to certain processing, or lodge a complaint with your data protection authority.
To exercise any of these rights, email [email protected].
9. Children
Voqu is not intended for children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will remove it.
10. International transfers
Voqu operates globally, and your information — including content shared with partners in other countries — may be processed in countries other than your own. We rely on appropriate safeguards for these transfers where required by law.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we'll update the date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app or by email.
